The emblem, or crest, of the Carthusian Order is depicted as a globe surmounted by a cross. Emblazoned above this emblem are seven stars which represent St Bruno and his six companions who formed the first Carthusian family.

The Order's motto is stat crux dum volvitur orbis, which is translated as the cross stands while the world revolves.

In a world that is ever changing it is the cross which remains stable and permanent.
